Interning for Assemblywoman Ellen Park
I had the wonderful experience of interning for Assemblywoman Ellen Park. I was very excited to meet her because she was the first Korean American woman to be elected into the NJ Legislature. It was very inspiring to see a politician who is Korean and a woman working in the state government.
In this picture I was assisting her in a voting meeting at Trenton. She let me press the buttons to approve a bill presented while explaining to me the importance of it. I was so excited to see all the representatives after.
My Experience at the Office
Working at the office was such a cool behind-the-scenes experience. I helped organize different bills for her to review — which basically meant sorting through a ton of papers, figuring out what each one was about, and making sure everything was prepped before meetings. I also packed a lot of envelopes for campaigning, and during voting meetings, I took notes on the bills being discussed so she could keep track of everything going on. It was busy, but being part of the process made me realize how much actually goes on in politics that people don’t see.
